What a good day we had at the Fairview Church of Christ last Sunday! We had our first ever involvement day. Our program Sunday morning was so helpful because it gave our deacons an opportunity to explain their works to you. It gave our congregation a good idea of what works we are trying to accomplish as a body of God’s people in this community. We were presented with many opportunities for service. Our congregation has names and faces to go with each particular ministry.
Thank you so much for being so receptive to this day. We’ve heard a lot of positive comments. I know several folks have been talking with our deacons. Others are taking the involvement forms and thinking about areas where they might be able to serve. However you are responding to what was presented Sunday, you are appreciated.
Were you as impressed as I was with how much we are attempting to do? We are blessed to have men who are volunteering their time, talent, and energy to provide leadership in these works. Our deacons aren’t paid anything for what they invest into our ministries. Their greatest reward is the satisfaction of seeing our ministries prosper and our church working to build up Christians, make disciples, and impact our community.
Please continue to pray for our deacons. They are striving to do the best they can to fulfill their ministries. The more support they have, the more confidence they will have as they put their talents to work and organize opportunities of service for the rest of us.
Our deacons currently serving are: Billy Adcock, who serves in maintaing our grounds; Jackson Brunger, who organizes special events and oversees our women’s serving ministry; Denise Defreese, who oversees our Bible School and VBS; Michael Gregory, who coordinates our church communications; Ronnie Hudgins, who works with the Senior Saints and the We Care Group; Cleveland Patterson, who works diligently with our youth ministry; Steven Patterson, who is charge of our facilities; and James Wright, who coordinates those who serve in worship assemblies, works with benevolent ministry, and assists with facilities as well. Right now our elders are overseeing the involvement ministry and the preschool while Ed Lasson is recovering from his illness.
One of our main emphases as we move forward after involvement day is making sure we follow up. We are making a commitment to be proactive in communicating with our members who want to be involved. Our deacons have been encouraged to make contact and have organizational meetings with those who volunteer. Our deacons are also going to be preparing reports to share at our Elders/Deacons/Ministers meetings every month. We’ve had a great start in our involvement ministry with this presentation on Sunday and we want to keep our enthusiasm level high for our works. If you have volunteered but haven’t been contacted, please try to be proactive as well. Give the deacon you want to work with a call to remind him of your desire to help.
One other note about Sunday: Our Youth Minister, Cliff Hand did a wonderful job in leading our thoughts about growing in the Christian Graces. It’s wonderful to have someone working with our young people (and with the rest of us as well) who gives such careful thought to how we can develop and grow in Christ. Thanks Cliff, for an inspiring message!
