Wonderfully Made

What are the first thoughts that come into your mind when you see a brand new baby?  Those little ones are so soft and fragile.  They are a tiny duplicate of two people meshed into one.  We are in awe of their frame, and also of their potential.  Who knows what a baby’s ability will be?  What kind of personality will she have?  What will be his talents?  Will he be an athlete?  Will she show flashes of brilliance?  We see a life with an unwritten future of endless possibilities.  In  babies we see not only little adorable, cuddly people, but evidence of how their little bodies are designed.  They are a wonderful testament to the power of God.

David wrote about God’s power in his life in the Psalms.  He said “…you formed my inward parts; you knitted me together in my mother’s womb….My frame was not hidden from you when I was being made in secret….Your eyes saw my unformed substance; in your book were written, every one of them, the days that were formed for me, when as yet there were none of them” (Psalm 139:13-16).

According to the Bible, God not only oversees the process that pieces our DNA together and forms everything about us in the shelter of our mothers’ wombs, but he is just as aware of our endless possibilities.  He knows the days that are in front little babies.  He knows the opportunities that lie ahead.  He knows the challenges that await.  He has uniquely equipped each one with talents and a personality to face them all.

So the next time you see a precious baby think of what you can give her to help her make the most of the uniqueness that God has placed within her.  Babies need our resources, yes.  They need our care.  But give also give them your genuine, unconditional love.  They need it more.  Yes, open every door of opportunity you can.  But also teach them responsibility. They need it more.  Eventually they will find resources and opportunity that you can’t give.  God has placed their days in front of them.  Every resource and opportunity really comes from him.  It’s your unconditional love and lessons of life and faith that will help them to make the most of the as yet unwritten book of days.
