Our elders have overall responsibility for oversight and direction of the church. They are to seek, in all matters, the mind of Christ (who is the Head of the Church) through the guidance of the Holy Spirit and the Word of God. They must be able to teach and exhort the church in sound doctrine and refute those who contradict the truth. Elders are to lead by example and will provide instruction for the maintenance of healthy relationships within the church. They appoint deacons or ministers as is necessary to accomplish the mission of the church.
“It is a trustworthy statement: if any man aspires to the office of overseer, it is a fine work he aspires to do.”
Wherever special ministry tasks were needed, since the beginning of the church, servant leaders (deacons) were appointed to carry out those tasks. As in Acts 6, where people of “good reputation, full of wisdom and the Holy Spirit” were appointed to the task of caring for neglected Grecian widows, our servant leaders assume responsibility for numerous ministry tasks and oversee many physical needs of our congregation.
"For those who have served well as deacons obtain for themselves a high standing and great confidence in the faith that is in Christ Jesus."

Since Gipson’s graduation Freed-Hardeman with a Masters in New Testament along with Bachelor degrees in both Bible and Business Administration he has served a variety of roles in his service in the Lord’s church. Youth Ministry, Education Minister, and Associate Minister. He’s been also been involved as a staff member of the Horizons Program every summer. In 2010, Gibson celebrated his 20th year working with the program. The Horizons Program is a camp at FHU that is designed to instill leadership qualities in young people. There he has taught preaching and song-leading classes along with other topical classes. Over the years Gipson also participated in mission campaigns to the Eluthra and Freeport in the Bahamas, Knott County Ky, Baxter TN, Rutledge TN, and Marmaduke AR.
Gispon’s foundation with Lord’s church began in Columbia Tn where he was raised in a strong Christian home. His father served as an elder at the West 7th church congregation and his mother who was a teacher at Columbia Academy, where he graduated. It continued with his marriage to Stephanie, a graduate from Lipscomb University.
They continue to work together for the Lord’s church as they raise their 4 children. Claire, Will, Caroline and Mathis. The Baucum’s are a lot like you and me. They love spending time with their family, playing outdoors with their children and getting to know others.
We are very happy to have both Gipson and his lovely family worshiping and working with our congregation!
He has been working with the youth in various capacities for several years. During this time he and Kristy have demonstrated their willingness to work with the youth and the character necessary to be examples to our young people.
The youth minister is designated to do just as the title implies… minister actively to our congregation’s youth and their friends. Although organizing events, class schedules, overseeing the youth groups, balancing the youth group budget, and planning opportunities for the youth to get to know each other and serve the congregation is an important part of his responsibilities. A far more vital role is his direct interaction with our youth. Making sure all the youth have opportunities to grow stronger together in Christ and feel that they have someone besides their parents to discuss what ever needs or concerns they may have.
